Hair Transplant

Hair transplant is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring hair growth in areas of the scalp where hair loss or thinning has occurred. The procedure involves transplanting hair follicles from areas of the scalp that are resistant to hair loss, typically the back or sides of the head, to the balding or thinning areas.

There are two primary methods of hair transplant:

  • Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): Also known as strip harvesting, this method involves removing a strip of scalp tissue from the donor area and then dissecting it into individual follicular units under a microscope. These follicular units, each containing one to four hairs, are then transplanted into the recipient area using tiny incisions.
  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): In this method, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the donor area using a small punch tool, typically ranging from 0.6mm to 1.0mm in diameter. The harvested follicular units are then transplanted into the recipient area using a similar process as FUT.

Both FUT and FUE techniques can produce natural-looking results when performed by a skilled and experienced surgeon. The choice between the two methods depends on factors such as the patient's preferences, the extent of hair loss, the quality of the donor hair, and the surgeon's recommendation.

After the procedure, the transplanted hair may initially shed within a few weeks, but new hair growth typically begins within a few months. It's important to note that hair transplant is not a quick fix, and it may take several months to a year to see the full results of the procedure.

While hair transplant surgery is generally safe and effective, it's essential to consult with a qualified and board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who specializes in hair restoration to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure and to discuss your expectations, potential risks, and post-operative care.
